In the News High Street House is home away from home
(letter to the editor in Lake City Graphic)
To the editor:
I am writing this letter to express my gratitude and increase awareness for the people of Lake City for a greatly needed new facility.
Just recently, the High Street House (317 N. High St.) opened; it is owned by Rick Bremer and Cheryl Sprick. It is a facility for assisted living, a true home away from home!
It has nine units; each resident has their own apartment. They can furnish and decorate their unit with their personal furniture and items from home. Each is handicap accessible, beautifully decorated, private, but you are never alone.
There is a large kitchen which provides three home cooked meals a day, companionship, and social interaction.
There is a beautifully decorated sitting room for families and many resident activities. Each resident has an emergency call button answered 24 hours a day. It is such a wonderful place for people who can no longer I live alone, but are not ill enough to go to a nursing home.
The staff is fantastic, and I want people to know about it. For us, it was a blessing to find such a place for our mother.
Marylou Waltman, Lake City
(Note: Since
publication of this letter in 2002 we have expanded capacity to 11
residential apartments.)
